Friday 7th November 2014 marked a significant day in the life of our school community. After many years of smells from the local waste site the final trucks were allowed to dump landfill. The site is now full. Over the coming six months the landfill site will be remediated but the smells from exposed food waste will hopefully be a thing of the past.
Thank you to our school community for your patience and choosing Covenant in spite of the smells. The site has been in operation for 49 years but apparently was only approved two months after Covenant was granted permission to operate a school on the Forest Way site. The closure of the landfill site has been promised for many years but delayed. An Expression of Interest for developing a Mountain Biking facility on the site will be available shortly. A Development Application and Environmental Impact study have been lodged.
Trucks will continue to access the enclosed Waste Transfer Station now owned by SITA. The waste from Pittwater, Warringah, Manly and Mosman will then be transferred to other landfill sites around Sydney. The plan is for Kimbriki Tip at Ingleside / Terrey Hills to take the waste in the future.
